Virtual Machine Tool SetJAVA Proxy Server Documentation |
Are you tired of waiting for another family member to logoff from the Internet
so that you can then use it? Do you have more than 1 computer, but only one
can be used for Internet at a time? How about sharing that modem connection?
PSERVER lets all you computers share the same connection without any change in
the modem or cost charged by the Internet Provider.
Function:
PSERVER is a HTTP Proxy Server that is written in 100% pure JAVA. This means
that the code will run on any operating system that supports the current JAVA
Runtime Environment (JRE).
PSERVER provides your local area network with a simple proxy-firewall server
to connect to the Internet. It allows you to share a single Internet connection
over a number of client computers in your network.
PSERVER provides the focal point between all of your networked computers and
the Internet. The program uses TCP/IP Protocol Software Socket connections to
link each of your PCs to the Internet. After you have installed and begin
running PSERVER from one of your designated computers which already connects
to the Internet, then all other computers can now share the same connection.
The Server computer becomes a "Gateway" between the Internet and your local
network, routing browser commands and responses along unique paths between
each of your PCs and the Internet. Also since the gateway machine acts as a
firewall by only opening a few well known ports.
No other Internet users can access you local network,
thus you are protected from Internet hackers.
There is no programmed limit to the number of computers that can connect to the
Internet via PSERVER. The number of connections is determined by the speed and
memory of the "gateway designated" computer on which PSERVER runs. Only this
computer need have a connection via modem dial-up, DSL, ISDN or any of the other
ways to link to your Internet Service Provider.
PSERVER has been tested with up to 10 connections while running on a 486-based
machine executing at 66Mhz. So don't throw out that old PC, it will make a good
server for Internet connections. And of course PSERVER will run great on any
machine faster than a 486.
PSERVER requires NO code to be installed on any client computer.
The machine running the PSERVER gateway is still free to run other work. It
does not need to be exclusive to PSERVER.
