Function:
VMRSM is a real-time system performance monitor that accurately evaluates the
current state of the VM system keeping your technical support staff ever
aware of the changing resource demand and load placed upon the VM system.
The important CP and Guest statistics are clearly and graphically reported
upon. You are alerted to exceptional performance conditions as they occur
not minutes or hours later.
VMRSM provides your Systems Programmer with a viewport to the VM System
operation from any supported local, SNA or Internet connected terminal.
VMRSM permits VM performance problems to be examined directly and allow
the Systems Programmer to see the differences immediately as he/she makes
adjustments to the environment. Categories of measurment include:
General monitoring of the overall VM/ESA system,
Specific Virtual Machine monitors,
I/O distribution,
Real Device monitoring,
Active Users monitoring.
Performance management begins with knowing precisely the current running
condition and resource consumption of your systems.
Most of the displayed statistics are self-explanatory, but further
interpretation can be found detailed in the IBM manual:
'VM/ESA CP Data Areas and Control Blocks Logic'.
VMRSM extracts its data directly from the resident portions of the
VM System Control Program. Displays are presented in full screen and
refreshment is timed automatic.
VMRSM statistical displays provided include the following information:
- CPU Activity Levels - Paging Subsystem Activity
- Problem State CPU Usage - CP Supervisor Overhead
